Korean Service
Yesterday I went for a comprehensive health check at the local Hyundai hospital. It cost about 250 euros and included absolutely everything I could think of: hearing, sight and dental checks, lifestyle things like fat and muscle distribution, a blood test and both the bodily-products tests. And I had so many X-rays, I was actually glowing slightly by the end of the day. Oh and the, erm, digestive system checks. From both ends. In Korea, you always get something for free if you're spending a bit of cash. In a shop, you can sometimes specifically ask for something free if you've bought a lot and they don't offer. In the hospital, I got a free (and terrifying) additional "digestive system check", which seemed a lot more thorough than the check I got in the UK a few years ago after waiting on a list for six months. A bit too thorough if you ask me.
Anyway, today we ordered a new internet connection for Jungwon's parent's place. It's an 8Meg link (16 times faster than the UK), and includes a wireless access point all set up and ready to go. The price: 45,000 won per month, which is 21 pounds or 32 euros. That's two-thirds of the price of a 0.5Meg link in the UK. But what's really cool is the choice of free stuff you get when you order:
multipurpose digital camera
handy powerful vacuum cleaner
electric toothbrush with brush cleaner
massage mat to prevent sleepiness
gps
juicer
my friend handmixer
slow cooker
steam iron
lamp
wireless kettle and flask
subwoofer and calc mousepad
optical mouse plus mousepad
vacuum cleaner plus electr toothbrush
caller id phone
memory foam pillow
tupperware selection
boat for two people
Actually it looks like you choose of the above but only get it if you win a prize draw. But you definitely get to choose one of these in addition:
mtv bicycle discount coupon
alarm clock
snap hook
free ticket to jeju island
FM radio
bioblock
coupon for water purifier
discount for a kimchi fridge
Excellent!
